Listening to Your Body

I skipped my run on Thursday. I didn’t want to and I fought with my body about it, but in the end, I decided to listen to it instead. I seem to have a minor muscle strain going on in the upper inner thigh of my right leg and pelvic area. I’ve felt it on and off ever since I finished my race, but it wasn’t really affecting me until after my run this past Tuesday. My run was amazing; I ran my hardest and fastest and felt great, but I aggravated that muscle, I think.

Ouch! This is where it hurt!

I was still set on running despite it hurting all day yesterday and I even suited up when I got home to head out. It was feeling better after some warm-up stretching, but still iffy. I decided to jog down my building hallway as a test run. Ow. Fail. Okay, nevermind. The last thing I wanted was to really injure myself and give up weeks of running vs. a few days, so I threw in the towel. I’m really glad I listened to my body though. It’s okay to take a day off if your body is telling you it needs it.

And here’s a story where I didn’t listen to my body and I should have. Scott and I went out for dinner on Friday night. We decided to try this little South Indian vegetarian restaurant in downtown Nashua called Meena’s Kitchen. We were both pretty hungry and ended up ordering a little too much food as a result. About halfway through my meal, I heard my body telling me it was satiated. At that point, I could have stopped and packed up the rest to take home. Instead, I just kept on eating! I don’t know what came over me. By not listening to what my body was telling me, I ended up feeling really sick and bloated the rest of the night and went to bed that way, too. Yuck. I hope that I’ve learned my lesson. As a side note, Meena’s Kitchen had wonderful vegetarian food but we were very disappointed with the service. It was pretty terrible. We are both hoping that it was just a bad night and we’ll give it another try.

I was in Nashua last fall for work and I fell in love with the surrounding countryside. I wanted to move to Peterborough, and could have relocated my boyfriend’s and my jobs, but then. . .last winter happened. And I realized that you are all either a) crazy or b) really, really heroic for surviving cold, snowy winters year after year. :)

Downtown Nashua was super cute. And I need to start running. Thanks for the inspiration!

You know, I’ve lived my entire life in New England so you’d think I’d be used to the cold winters by now, right? I still complain about them every single year. So, I think, in my case, I’m a) crazy. :) And I’d love to hear all about your running – I’m enjoying it so much and I hope you do too. :)
